Australia Claim 21/22 World Series with Charlotte Caslick Named DHL Impact Player of the Year

Winning thirty-one out of the thirty-four games played and taking home four tournament wins, the Australians were fiercely dominant in the 2022 World Rugby Sevens Series. The team claimed the championship title before the final tournament of the season with a dramatic 21-17 final win in Langford, Canada.

Leading the pack was the indomitable Charlotte Caslick, Australia’s co-captain and arguably the world’s best player. Caslick finished the tournament with 85 tackles, 27 breaks, 38 offloads and 159 carries, putting her 75 points ahead of nearest rival. Her blistering form was enough to see her named DHL Impact Player of the Year, just 5 months after picking up her third Shawn Mackay Award.

Speaking after the Langford final, Caslick said:

“It’s amazing to have New Zealand back in the Series; we’ve been looking forward to playing them for such a long time.

Our girls showed incredible effort; we started the game well and obviously continued that through to the finish which I’m incredibly proud of.

It would have been bittersweet if we came away with the World Series but not a tournament win, so we’ll definitely take time to celebrate that result with the team tonight.”

Charlotte has been in the form of her life this season – she was also named in the World Rugby Dream Team along with two of her countrywomen. With the Commonwealth Games just around the corner, Caslick will be looking to add another gold medal to her tally.
