Where there's a WILL, there's a way: Another Golden Year for Will Ashcroft
Always Human athlete Will Ashcroft has wrapped another outstanding AFL season, helping Brisbane claim a historic third consecutive premiership.
At just 22, Will has now played in three premierships, matching the three-peat achieved by his father Marcus with the Lions two decades earlier.
Named in Brisbane’s leadership group at the start of the year, Will went on to record career highs across disposals, goals, score involvements and inside 50s. He also produced nine consecutive 30+ disposal games, earned selection in the 46-man All-Australian squad and finished inside the top five of the Brownlow Medal count.
His Round 23 performance also earned him the Marcus Ashcroft Medal as best on ground, an award named after his father.
Will delivered when it mattered most in finals, recording a game-high 31 disposals, nine clearances and seven score involvements in Brisbane’s Grand Final win over Fremantle.
His finals form saw him claim the Gary Ayres Award for the second consecutive year, becoming just the second player after Dustin Martin to win the award more than once.
Will capped off the season with his first Merrett-Murray Medal as Brisbane’s club champion, while also sharing the club’s Best Finals Player award with Josh Dunkley.
At just 22, with three premierships and two Norm Smith Medals already to his name, Will continues to build one of the most remarkable starts to a career in the modern game.
